Bathroom Design and Installation in Hastings and East Sussex
A good bathroom starts with good plumbing. Ellwood & Son design and install complete bathrooms across Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill and Rye, from a straightforward shower replacement to a full refit, planned around your space and fitted by the same team that looks after heating and plumbing in homes like yours every day.
Bathroom Design and Installation
From First Ideas to Final Fit
We start with how you actually use the room, not a showroom template. Whether you want a family bathroom that stands up to daily punishment, a walk-in shower to replace a bath, or a full refit from the pipework up, we help you settle on a layout and fittings that suit the space and the budget before anything is ordered.
Because the design and the installation come from the same team, there is no gap between what was promised and what gets built. The person who planned your bathroom is accountable for how it turns out.

Fitting Bathrooms in Older Sussex Homes
A lot of the homes we work in around Hastings and St Leonards are Victorian and Edwardian properties, where bathrooms were squeezed into whatever space was available and the pipework has been altered many times since. Sloping ceilings, boxed-in soil stacks and awkward corners are familiar territory for us.
We plan around those quirks rather than fighting them, and where the old pipework needs upgrading to give you decent flow and reliable drainage, we tell you before the job starts, not halfway through it.

One Team, Less Disruption
A bathroom refit puts your home's most used room out of action, so we run the job to a clear schedule and keep you told about what happens each day. The plumbing, heating and installation work is handled by our own team, and where a project needs other trades we coordinate the work so you are not left project-managing your own bathroom.
We keep the water off for as little time as possible, protect the rest of the house while we work, and leave the site tidy at the end of each day.

Help & Advice
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a full bathroom refit take?
A typical full refit takes one to two weeks depending on the size of the room, the scope of the work and whether pipework needs rerouting. Smaller jobs, such as a shower replacement, are usually done in a day or two. You get a realistic schedule before we start.
How much does a new bathroom cost in Hastings?
It depends on the size of the room, the fittings you choose and how much of the plumbing needs altering, so prices vary widely. We provide a clear written quote after seeing the space, and we will happily suggest where to spend and where to save.
Do you help with design, or just the installation?
Both, that is the point of the service. We help you plan the layout, choose fittings that suit the space and avoid the design mistakes that only show up after a bathroom is in use, then the same team installs it.
Can you just replace my shower rather than doing a whole bathroom?
Yes. Shower replacements, new enclosures and single fixture upgrades are all regular jobs for us. You do not need to commit to a full refit to get a bathroom that works properly.
Can you fit a bathroom into a small or awkward space?
Yes, and around here that skill gets plenty of use. Many local homes have compact or oddly shaped bathrooms, and the right layout, shower enclosure and fittings make a surprising difference. We measure up and design around the room you actually have.
Will you handle everything, or do I need to arrange other trades?
The plumbing, heating and installation work is ours, and where the project needs additional trades we coordinate that work as part of the job. You deal with one team and one schedule rather than juggling contractors yourself.
My house is a Victorian terrace. Will the old pipework cause problems?
Not problems we have not seen before. Older properties around Hastings and St Leonards often have pipework that has been altered repeatedly over the decades. We assess it at the survey stage and tell you up front if anything needs upgrading, so the quote reflects the real job.
Can you install a towel rail or designer radiator as part of the bathroom?
Yes. Towel rails and designer radiators are part of our day-to-day heating work, so having them supplied and fitted within the bathroom project is straightforward and usually the most cost-effective time to do it.
Do you install bathrooms in Bexhill and Rye?
Yes. We design and install bathrooms across Hastings, St Leonards-on-Sea, Bexhill-on-Sea and Rye. Distance within that patch makes no difference to the service you get.
How much disruption should I expect during the work?
Some disruption is unavoidable when your bathroom is stripped out, but we manage it tightly: water is only off when it genuinely needs to be, the rest of the house is protected from dust and traffic, and we tidy up at the end of every day. You will always know what is happening next.
My shower pressure is poor. Can you fix that as part of the job?
Usually, yes. Poor pressure can come from the pipework, the shower itself or the way the hot water system is set up. We diagnose the cause during the survey and build the fix into the design, which is far better than fitting a lovely new shower that still dribbles.
